Our Work in Action
Fighting for Scottish Blogger Jagtar Singh Johal
Jagtar Singh Johal is a Scottish human rights activist who drew attention to abuses against India’s Sikh population. In late 2017, shortly after his wedding in India, Jagtar was abducted off the street by police and tortured into making a false confession. He’s been imprisoned and at risk of a death sentence ever since – even though there’s no credible evidence against him.
Lethal Injections in the Modern Era: Cruel, Unusual and Racist
In 2024, Reprieve released a landmark investigation into the factors that lead to botched lethal injection executions. We showed that this method of execution goes wrong more than any other—and that Black people were more than twice as likely as white people to suffer a torturous lethal injection execution.
193 people off death row in Malawi
Since 2014, Reprieve and our partners have fought for people facing execution in Malawi. One by one their death sentences have been lifted, and most have returned to their communities after serving prison sentences – now death row in Malawi sits empty.
