PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCED: Jovelle Carty Joubert, Linda Carty’s daughter, will speak about her mother’s impending execution

June 7, 2010

Press Conference: 10:15am Tuesday 8th June 2010, Room W1, House of Commons (Cromwell Green entrance), London SW1A 0AA

Speakers: Jovelle Carty Joubert, Peter Bottomley MP, Clive Stafford Smith OBE

Jovelle Carty Joubert — the daughter of Linda Carty, British grandmother facing imminent execution in Texas — will speak about her mother’s case.

Jovelle is in London for an emergency meeting with the British government following the US Supreme Court’s recent refusal to re-open her mother’s case. Peter Bottomley MP will join Clive Stafford Smith and Jovelle to discuss the British government’s attempts to stop Linda Carty’s execution, expected to take place this summer.

British grandmother Linda Carty was convicted of planning a murder following a catastrophically flawed trial in Texas. The US Supreme Court last month refused to hear Linda’s case, meaning that all legal avenues are exhausted. She now awaits imminent execution.

Jovelle Carty Joubert was eighteen at the time of Linda Carty’s arrest and has lived nearly a decade with her mother on death row. She has always protested her mother’s innocence and continues to visit her once a month at the prison, four hours’ drive from where she lives in Texas. Jovelle has come to Britain to advocate on behalf of her mother in an attempt to save her life.
