Child defendant Mohammed al-Faraj will no longer be executed. Mohammed’s life has been saved thanks to the Reprieve community.
Last year, Reprieve supporters came together to fight for Mohammed when we had news that he could be sentenced to death:
- 23,708 signed the petition calling on the Saudi Arabian authorities to spare Mohammed’s life
- 7,876 wrote to the head of the Saudi Arabian Human Rights Commission demanding they act to save Mohammed’s life
- Thousands of you shared Mohammed’s story when one of the biggest boxing matches of 2022 took place in Jeddah (Joshua vs. Usyk)
Mohammed is a child defendant whose so-called “crimes” include going to his uncle’s funeral aged 9. Although his life has been saved, he’ll spend five more years in prison. We will remain vigilant on his case.
Although Mohammed’s life has been saved, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman continues to oversee child defendants being sentenced to death including our client Abdullah al-Howaiti. And Saudi Arabian authorities have executed 15 people for childhood “crimes” since 2011.
