Hear from Marika, who completed the Eastbourne 10k for Reprieve last year and smashed her fundraising target:
What inspired you to run for Reprieve?
I was inspired to run for Reprieve because it felt like a way that I could support their important work by setting myself a challenge and raising money.
What was the best part of your training?
I have two small kids, and so having a goal really motivated me to prioritise going for a run. I live by the sea so it was so great to get down there, and knowing my run was going to raise money for Reprieve made it even sweeter!
How much did you end up raising? And can you tell us more about how you smashed your fundraising target?
I managed to raise £928 including Gift Aid! I learned that you can be quite creative with how you raise your fundraising target. I did a raffle – I asked a couple of friends to donate prizes and then sold tickets for £5.
You can also think whether your company does matched giving. Finding ways to maximise your impact is easier than you think.
What would be one piece of advice you would give for anyone thinking of taking on a challenge?
Enjoy the opportunity to do something that you love and makes you feel good, while also raising money for Reprieve.
