Maryam is an Assassinations Project Caseworker. Having joined Reprieve in 2016, she has a particular focus on identifying people who are on the ‘Drone Age Kill List’. She is committed to assisting targeted individuals by challenging US and UK decisions to kill them without trial. She assists survivors of drone attacks and victims’ families in their fight for legal accountability, transparency and justice.
Maryam is also a specialist criminal defence barrister and has experience as trial counsel across the full spectrum of offences. Passionate about fearless representation of her clients, Maryam has particular expertise in cases raising issues of freedom of speech and proportionality. She has experience in taking action against the police where there has been a finding of unlawful conduct.
Maryam obtained her Masters in Human Rights Law at the University of Nottingham and read Law at the University of Leeds. She is a member of Lincon’s Inn and a Lord Denning scholar.
Maryam speaks Urdu, Punjabi and some Arabic
