Video: Last Words
“Well, I guess no one’s going to call” Edward Earl Johnson said as he was strapped into Mississippi’s gas chamber and his hopes of justice faded. “OK, let’s get this over with”.
The switch was thrown by the executioner, and Edward’s life was taken. Those were his last words.
Whether they are a last-minute plea for justice, or mercy, an apology, or just a goodbye, the last words of those who are put to death are a poignant reminder of the finality of the death penalty – and of the human life that is being ended.
Last Words showcases the stories of death row prisoners from across the world, in their own words.
