Simone Abel

SimoneSimone is the Director of Operations, Policy and Resources at Reprieve. She assists the Executive Director with Reprieve’s strategy and governance; oversees Reprieve’s Operations with the help of a brilliant team; carries out legal and policy work; and helps manage and develop the resources of the organisation.

Simone is an Australian qualified solicitor who came to Reprieve from René Cassin, a London-based human rights NGO that she directed from 2010 – 2013.

Prior to that, Simone worked in New York and in Sydney, initially as a commercial lawyer at large law firms and then as associate general counsel at an international human rights organisation.

Simone holds a BA/LLB and a Masters in International Law from the University of NSW. She is a graduate of the Centro de Estudio del Espanol in Buenos Aires and has lent her skills to a number of causes including the Migrant and Refugee Rights Project and the Downing Centre Duty Solicitor Scheme. She has published articles on human rights law issues including indirect discrimination, winning the CESAA Essay Prize in 2012.
