| Eleni Antonopoulos, Reprieve Fellow 2006 - 8
Eleni Antonopoulos used her fellowship at the Louisiana Capital Assistance Center (LCAC) to provide case investigation in cases that the state will not fund or underfunds in Texas and Louisiana. Eleni provided investigative support for a challenge to the use of lethal injection in Louisiana, and to the Blackstrikes initiative, challenging racial discrimination in the use of peremptory strikes by prosecutors. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Eleni took over as lead investigator at LCAC, an important and difficult responsibility. Eleni was also a key member of the team of lawyers and investigators who worked day and night to secure the release of the seven thousand prisoners who were in Orleans Parish prison when the hurricane hit New Orleans whose case remained in limbo for months afterwards due to the suspension of courts and loss of records.
